Miguel Caló (Buenos Aires, October 28, 1907 – May 24, 1972) was one of the most refined and beloved orchestra leaders of the Golden Age of Argentine tango. Known as the maestro of musical elegance, he created a unique sound—soft, romantic, and melodic—perfect for both dancers and listeners.
Born into a family of musicians, Miguel Caló learned to play the bandoneónat an early age. As a young man, he performed in small local groups before joining prestigious orchestras, including that of Osvaldo Fresedo, who had a profound influence on his musical style.

The peak of his career came in the 1940s, when he created what became known as “La orquesta de las estrellas”(“The orchestra of the stars”), featuring outstanding musicians such as Domingo Federico, Osmar Maderna, Enrique Francini, and Armando Pontier.
Caló’s music was distinguished by its soft, melodic sound, with sophisticated arrangements and a strong sense of harmony.
His ensemble was considered one of the most refined orchestras of the era, blending romanticism, sweetness, and rhythmin a perfect balance for dancing.
