Carlos Di Sarli (1903–1960), nicknamed “El Señor del Tango” (“The Gentleman of Tango”), was a pianist, composer, and orchestra director. Born in Bahía Blanca, he moved to Buenos Aires, where he worked as a pianist in various groups before founding his own típica orchestra in 1939.
His style was defined by elegance and melodic subtlety, with a unique pianistic phrasing that gave his orchestra its identity. Di Sarli achieved a perfect balance between danceability and refinement, making him highly appreciated by both dancers and listeners. His music remains essential in today’s milonga repertoires.
